In the thousands of posts and many years I've had this blog, I've only\never mentioned my Mastering\nRegular Expressions<\/i> book<\/a> a few<\/span> times, most recently perhaps six\nyears ago when I\nannounced<\/span><\/a> that the third edition was complete and available.<\/p>\n\n

For those not steeped in computer science, despite the linguistic feel\nto the name, it's a computer<\/span> book about a very<\/span> thin slice of\ntext-processing technology of interest to a certain<\/span> kind of programmer.<\/p>\n\n

I don't generally mention it here because this blog is about me, and not\nabout artificially fanning sales for something I did<\/span>; I want<\/span> the book to do\nwell because folks that might find it useful actually find it useful. I guess<\/span> I want<\/span> it to do however well it does organically<\/i>.<\/p>\n\n

The book has been well received these last 14 years, through three\neditions, and currently enjoys an excellent<\/a> 4.5-star rating at\nAmazon.com<\/a>, and 5-star ratings everywhere else I can<\/span> find a rating<\/span>\nonline, such as in Germany<\/a>,\nJapan<\/a>,\nKorea<\/a>,\nand Poland<\/a>\n(though that last one seems to be out of a possible<\/span> six). Besides those\ntranslations, it's also been translated into at least Chinese, French, and\nRussian, though I can't<\/span> find ratings for those. The publisher<\/span> doesn't tell\nme when they contract a new<\/span> translation, so for all I know<\/span> it's expanded\nfurther since I last<\/span> checked several years ago.<\/p>\n\n

They also didn't tell me when they made an e-book version, but they\napparently have because I've heard that the e-book version is currently on sale for half off<\/a> along with other\nregex-related books at the publisher, O'Reilly Media.<\/p>\n\n

They asked me to help spread the word, and I figure<\/span> that having written a technical<\/span> best-seller\nthat has stood the test of time garners me the right to toot my own horn once a decade,<\/span> so here's this decade's toot:\n“regex e-books at O'Reilly half off until September 4th<\/i><\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n
