This post picks up from where “Discovery On The Way to The\nWaterfall<\/a>” left off the other day. After venturing through a cluster<\/span> of\nbuildings, I had stopped<\/span> on a little<\/span> bridge to take some shots of the\nwater, and Nicolas snapped the photo above.<\/p>\n\n

In the picture above you can see a large<\/span> tree growing out of the rocks\nto the left of me. Between that tree and the rocks to the foreground, the stream\ncame pouring through in a little<\/span> waterfall at eye level that I tried<\/span> to\ncapture. (The stream then continued under the bridge I was<\/span> standing on, tumbling\ndown the mountain as we saw in that “on the way...” post.)<\/p>\n\n

I tried a number of hand-held shots of the eye-level waterfall, none of which came out,\nbut this was the least objectionable:<\/p>\n\n

The water seems fine to me (it's got enough blur that I like<\/span> it, but\nenough detail to perhaps satisfy those who don't like the milky-smooth\nwaterfall clich\u00e9), but the composition just does nothing<\/i> for me. I think<\/span> I was<\/span> just too lazy to switch to my 50mm lens.<\/p>\n\n

The view up the stairs was nice, with the shrine gate and all...<\/p>\n\n

We still had no idea what was beyond the steps or how far the path went,\nmuch less that there was an amazing waterfall<\/a>\npatiently waiting for our cameras.<\/p>\n\n

But I did see that the aforementioned tree had some interesting bark illuminated by some\nreally gorgeous light, so I moved<\/span> my attention that way...<\/p>\n\n

Despite the appearance of a trough left by an ice-cream scoop, it seems\nclear that these weren't made by mechanical means. Perhaps some kind of\ntree virus? Hopefully Peter, my staff botanist, will chime in here.<\/p>\n\n

Eventually we made our way up what turned out to be the last set of stairs...<\/p>\n\n

At the top of the steps, still not privy to the waterfall just around\nthe corner, the light in the little valley was just gorgeous<\/i>, and I\ngot<\/span> this kind of “layers of leaves” shot that I really<\/span> love, but looks flat\nwhen it's not totally filling the screen (so be sure to click through to a\ndesktop<\/span>-background size if you're also into this kind of look)...<\/p>\n\n
