Back again to the mossy temple visit from\n“Tag Along With Me on a Photo<\/span> Shoot at Kyoto\u2019s Gioji Temple<\/a>”,\nwith an orange followup counterpart to the\n“Gioji Temple Photo Shoot: Nicolas\u2019s White Little Mushrooms<\/a>” post.<\/p>\n\n

The temple's entrance gate is covered by a little<\/span> roof of bamboo and decaying moss-covered wood. For context, here's a photo<\/span> of the roof\nwith Nicolas under it (photographing a spider<\/span>):<\/p>\n\n

Once Nicolas was done, I moved<\/span> in with my all-time favorite lens, the\nmouthwatering-bokeh 1:1-macro<\/span> Voigtl\u00e4nder 125mm f\/2.5<\/a>\nto get up close and personal with my new orange friends....<\/p>\n\n

I always have a question about what aperture is best, because that controls the depth of field... how quickly things in the foreground and background fade into\na delicious bokeh<\/a>. I'm a real<\/span> fan of that effect, seen many times here on the blog,\nsuch as this<\/a>\nand this<\/a>\nand this<\/a>\nand this<\/a>\nand this<\/a>\nand this<\/a> and a hundred<\/span> others, I'm sure.<\/p>\n\n

But sometimes a bit more in focus helps. In the recent<\/span>\npassion-fruit flower post<\/a>, many shots of the\nspaceship-like flower were with a small<\/span> aperture (large “f” number) because they ended up looking better than the ultra-thin-depth shots.<\/p>\n\n

In the same vein as the moss polarizer-filter\nexamples<\/a> from the other day, here's a comparison<\/span> of depth-of-field\nbetween wide open at f\/2.5, and stopped down a bit<\/span> at f\/8:<\/p>\n\n
