Earlier this month I told my tale of out-of-shape hiking woe in “Yesterday\u2019s Hike:\nThe Agony Where Bravado Yields, In Spectacular<\/span> Fashion, To Painful<\/span> Reality<\/a>”. The trip up<\/span> the mountain was, if you'll excuse the pun, an\nexercise in pain, but the trip down was a breeze,<\/span> as I availed<\/span> myself of a cable car<\/a> that heads straight up\/down the mountain.<\/p>\n\n

In the Japanese vernacular, a “cable car” is a train<\/span> pulled by a cable.<\/span>\nFrom where that ends near the top, a “ropeway” (as seen above) can bring\nyou the rest of the short distance to the top. The American<\/span> English in me\nwould have called the ropeway a cable<\/span> car, and the cable car a train,<\/span> so I\nhad<\/span> to relearn those words for Japan.<\/p>\n\n

The view from the area where the cable car ends, even though not the top\nof the mountain, is impressively high, and I was<\/span> surprised at the sense of\nheight. It feels much<\/i> higher than from Daimonji, for example (as\nseen here<\/a>, here<\/a>, and here<\/a>). I want to<\/span> go back\nagain on a clear<\/span> day, with a big<\/span> lens.<\/p>\n\n

And luckily, even out-of-shape me can do so easily thanks to the cable\ncar (though I'm much less out of shape these days, since the exercise the\nhike prompted me to start).<\/p>\n\n
