I mentioned the other day in “Happy Ordination\nAnniversary (54!) to Kyoto Institution Fr. Graham McDonnell<\/a>” that I'd\ncome across a weird<\/span> flower, and was quickly informed (both here and on\nGoogle Plus<\/a>; not a word<\/span> from Facebook, where my blog-post notices never elicit a comment<\/span>)\nthat it was the flower from a passion<\/span>-fruit vine.<\/p>\n\n

The shape of the flower apparently lends the “Passion” to its English name, summoning images of the Passion of Christ.<\/p>\n\n

The Japanese name seems to come from the same construction, though along a different<\/span> path: tokeisou<\/i> (\u6642\u8a08\u8349)<\/span> means “Watch Plant”<\/p>\n\n
