I really don't care to use the iPhone camera, much less share the photos\nit produces, but when it's all you've got, it's all you've got. I occasionally<\/span> have lunch with Roman Catholic priest Fr. Graham McDonnell\n(“Father Mac”), and as we were about to start our salads, he remembered\nthat it was the anniversary of his ordination. 54 years.<\/p>\n\n

During WWII he was in the US Navy as a radar<\/span> repair engineer, then he spent\nnine years in seminary, and a year<\/span> later, in 1960, came to Kyoto and has\nbeen here since.<\/p>\n\n

He's been on my blog a couple of times, here<\/a> and here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

At a spry 85 years old he's still going strong, so I'll have to remember to\nbring my good camera next year.<\/p>\n\n

We were eating at a restaurant a minute's<\/span> walk from his office, Grill Normandie<\/a>\n(\u30ce\u30eb\u30de\u30f3\u30c7\u30a3), across from the Royal Hotel near Sanjo Ooike. He's been coming<\/span> for much of the 52 years he's been here. It was my<\/span> first time.<\/p>\n\n

So, since we went ahead and took a picture<\/span> to commemorate the event, I thought<\/span> I'd try to photograph some of the food as well, but I really<\/span> think\nit's a waste<\/span> with a camera<\/span> as bad as the iPhone, unless you apply all kinds\nof filters and such. But maybe<\/span> I just<\/span> don't know how to use it.<\/p>\n\n

I had planned to go back for lunch today with a real<\/span> camera so I could<\/span>\ndo this post justice, but I didn't<\/span> quite make it. I did,<\/span> however, get far\nenough to snap some shots of an amazing flower I noticed<\/span> on the street\nduring that one-minute walk from his office...<\/p>\n\n
