I wandered up to Kyoto's Shogunzuka overlook (\u5c06\u8ecd\u585a)<\/span> the other day where<\/a> I can<\/span>\nsometimes find nice sunsets (like this<\/a>, and as\nin this amazing photo<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

The cloud formations held great potential, but sadly, it manifest itself\nonly in my imagination (and then in Lightroom)...<\/p>\n\n

She was a professional photographer, there on her free time in hopes of\na nice<\/span> sunset. At least<\/span> we could chat while we waited to see whether\nanything developed. It turns<\/span> out that she uses Lightroom, the first time\nI've run into someone on the street in Japan who uses it. (Adobe does a\nhorrible.<\/span>.. just horrible<\/i> job of marketing Lightroom in this country.)<\/p>\n\n

She didn't know what “plugins” were, so I pointed<\/span> to the\nJapanese-language description\nat Adobe<\/a>, something I'm pleased to find that they actually have now,\nand noted that five of the plugins highlighted on the page were mine (from among\nthe 30+ I have<\/span> on my Lightroom Goodies\npage<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

I wondered for a bit why I didn't have a Japanese<\/span> version of my own\npage, but then I realized<\/span> that I can't<\/span> even come close to keeping the\nEnglish versions up to date, so that ended that internal conversation.<\/p>\n\n

After a while the mosquitoes started getting aggressive and she took her\nleave, but I stuck<\/span> around in hopes of the dynamic view you can sometimes\nget 30-45 minutes after sunset. I paid dearly<\/span> in mosquito bites as I was<\/span>\neaten alive, even though I covered<\/span> myself head-to-toe in bug spray.<\/p>\n\n

Not sure it was worth it, but if it is<\/i> amazing, you won't get the\nshot if you're not there, so that's how it goes with most trips. I should<\/span> report like this about the occasional non-wonderful sunset, lest I give<\/span> the\nimpression that Kyoto's has an amazing sunset every day.
