I snapped this shot on yesterday's hike<\/a>. It was very<\/span> hazy, so the “layered mountain” effect that I like<\/span> so much was strong.\nPerhaps too strong... I would<\/span> have liked more contrast.<\/p>\n\n

Taken from almost the same spot, looking a different<\/span> direction, is a moody<\/span> shot I like<\/span> of the\n“Azalea Hillside” (\u3064\u3064\u3058\u30f6\u4e18),<\/span> which can apparently be spectacular, but I missed<\/span> it by a week<\/span>:<\/p>\n\n

St\u00e9phane said that the previous week, the hillside was covered in every color except<\/i> green, but now many of the\nother colors had been taken over by green. It was still<\/span> pretty, so I'll have to visit at the right time next year.<\/p>\n\n\n

Returning to the first photo, I want to<\/span> point out a weird<\/span> effect I noticed,<\/span> and ask whether anyone knows what might have caused it. The version<\/span> above was processed fairly strongly in Lightroom; notice in this next unprocessed copy weird rings of magenta and cyan?\nThey're a bit<\/span> subtle, but clearly there, especially in the larger version you get when you click through:<\/p>\n\n

It seems clear to me that the rings are following the terrain, but I'm\nhaving a hard<\/span> time coming up with an explanation. Maybe it's some kind of\nweird reflection whose color changes subtly with angle? Or maybe<\/span> elevation\nrelated... but where do cyan<\/i> and magenta<\/i> come from?<\/p>\n\n

I am, if you'll excuse the pun, a bit<\/span> hazy on how this could happen. In fact, I'm baffled.<\/p>\n\n
