You may have noticed that the images were a bit<\/span> smaller in my previous post<\/a> about\nFumie's pointe shoes, compared to the sizes I normally<\/span> use (such as in the post before that<\/a>, full\nof, uncharacteristically, shots of me).<\/p>\n\n

For years, I've followed a basic pattern on my blog for\nlandscape-orientation photos — those wider than tall — giving\nthem a basic<\/span> width of 690 pixels, but yesterday's were a bit<\/span> smaller at 600\npixels wide. For portrait-oriented images — those taller than wide\n— I have<\/span> traditionally gone with 700 pixels tall, but yesterday\nlimited it to 500 pixels tall.<\/p>\n\n

Depending on your particular combination of viewing hardware, screen\nsettings, and personal preferences, you may prefer one way more than the\nother, and would even perhaps even like to see the size go further in one\ndirection or the other.<\/p>\n\n

Since I can't know or predict each person's viewing hardware, screen\nsettings, and personal preferences, I thought<\/span> I'd ask: for a photo<\/span>-heavy\nblog like mine, what do you think about the image size?<\/p>\n\n

Does it perhaps depend on the subject? Still life vs.<\/i> human interest? Maybe you feel one way about the landscape-oriented temple shot above,\nbut differently about the portrait-oriented portrait below?<\/p>\n\n

There's no “correct” to this — it's all personal preference\n— so please let me know what you think in the comments below. (And my\nMom asks me to reiterate the request for comments to include the\ncity\/country you're writing from, just for fun.)<\/p>\n\n

I doubt there will be a magic “Goldilocks” just-right consensus, but I won't<\/span> know until I ask,<\/span> so I'm asking.<\/p>\n\n

And while I'm at it, let me ask what you think about the duotone temple\nshot above, which I took<\/span> on the outing<\/a> that produced\nthis amazing and colorful\nphoto<\/a>. I'm not sure<\/span> the vibe of that photo, the whole “everything\nout of focus except for the tree trunk on the side” thing, really\nworks... I flip flop<\/span> between “it's really nice” and “it's tripe!”. I\ndunno.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The color version (seen below) was so vibrant... this was at the height\nof the fall-foliage season... that I decided<\/span> to take it as a challenge<\/span> to\ntry a black<\/span> & white version, but thought I'd get a little<\/span> crazy<\/i>\nand try a duotone<\/span> by hand, something I'd never done. I futzed<\/span> around with a\nbazillion<\/span> different looks, from dark and moody to bright and cheerful, and\nfinally got so dizzy with it all that I just<\/span> stopped, and the lead photo of\nthis post is what I had<\/span> at the time.<\/p>\n\n
