Fumie was excited today to get a new<\/span> pair of pointe shoes<\/a> (ballet\n“toe shoes”), having ordered a special<\/span> custom pair from Tokyo ballet shop\nAvignon<\/a>, with the\npart directly above the toes (the “vamp”) shorter than normal.<\/p>\n\n\n

She's been looking for a pair of pointe shoes that really suits her feet for\nyears, and recently found a pair<\/span> from Avignon that showed promise, but the\nvamp was a bit<\/span> too tall for her preference. Avignon is one of the few\nplaces in Japan that will build to order, so with great hope she asked for\na pair<\/span> with the vamp shortened by a centimeter.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It's quite a bit of work to prepare a new<\/span> pair for actual use, such as\nsewing on extra ribbons exactly where her feet need them, and gluing the\nfront platform pad. Then breaking them in. She has a<\/span> couple of lessons\ntomorrow, and is giddy at the prospect to try them.<\/p>\n\n
