First there was the walk to lunch (“On The Way To Lunch: Eastern-Kyoto Stroll<\/a>”),\nthen lunch (“Delicious Yuba Lunch at Junsei<\/a>”),\nand now the walk home...<\/p>\n\n

We came across an ultra-fluffy yaezakura<\/i> cherry that comes out\nlate (a variety<\/span> seen five years ago on my blog in “10 Gallons of Blossoms on a\n5-Gallon Branch<\/a>”). It seemed<\/span> all the more fluffy set off by the\nnew-growth green of the trees around it... <\/p>\n\n

I don't know whether this glowing effect was hindered or helped by the\nweird lighting we had all day, due to a particularly<\/span> thick treatment of kosa<\/i><\/a> haze, a fine<\/span>\nyellow dust that blows in from China.<\/p>\n\n

As we were approaching Maruyama Park, I thought<\/span> to take a small<\/span> street\nthat I'd not really noticed before, and I was<\/span> shocked to find a whole<\/span>\nsection of town I'd not known about. Here's the entrance to a temple<\/span> I'd\nnot known about, chorakuji<\/i><\/a>, which judging\nby the name (“long fun temple”) may end up becoming my favorite temple.<\/p>\n\n

We were in a rush so didn't stop in, but I plan<\/span> to remedy that soon.<\/p>\n\n

This was near the temple seen in “Some Temple or\nOther<\/a>” on the earlier on-the-way-to-lunch post, a temple<\/span> that also\nremains unexplored. I was stunned<\/span> to find these places and some of the\nothers seen later in this post because I used<\/span> to live just a third<\/span> of a\nmile<\/span> away, but I never<\/span> knew about it. Part of the reason might be that it's\nall behind Maruyama Park, a popular<\/span> park that I have<\/span> a strong<\/span> dislike for\nbecause it's the poster child for the ugly side of cherry-blossom\nviewing<\/a>. So, I have tended<\/span> to avoid the area and proactively ignore\nanything I felt<\/span> connected with it, but it seems I've thrown out some\nimpressive babies with the ugly-crowd bath water.<\/p>\n\n

Continuing on this “secret” (from me) road, we passed a number<\/span> of inns, including\none whose front “lawn” was certainly made more impressive by the kosa<\/i>-induced lighting:<\/p>\n\n
