Anthony still really enjoys his LEGOs,\nmaking “mockups” like the Clones vs. Droids Battle<\/a> I posted<\/span> last year. It's been fun<\/span> to see his play progress from\nsimple add-ons<\/a> to toys when he was three years old,\nto mimicking airport security<\/a> after some flights when he was four,\nto car repair<\/a> and advanced flight design<\/a>\nand intergalactic speeders<\/a> to a full cityscape<\/a>\nto complex combinations of Lord knows what<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Now at nine years old, he still enjoys his LEGO and saves almost all his allowance for it.<\/p>\n\n

A month or so ago he was very happy to find Swedish retailer Warehouse19<\/a>. They sell small LEGO\nsets, as well as custom pieces not made by LEGO but designed to fit into\nthe Legoverse. They have all kinds of hats, helmets, guns, armor... all\nstuff to whet a 9-year-old boy's imagination.<\/p>\n\n

Anthony ordered three tough-looking minifigures and enough kit to deck\nthem out in an appropriately “cool” style, as well as a bazillion<\/span> flowers\nand other plant pieces. He had a<\/span> specific mockup in his mind that he\nintended to make for them, involving the overgrown grounds of an abandoned\ncastle. (Because it's abandoned and overgrown, he needed a lot<\/span> of plants to\nsprinkle around, so a large<\/span> portion of his allowance went toward that.)<\/p>\n\n

He was so excited about it that he built most of the mockup just after\nwe ordered, so all that remained was to insert everything from the order once it\narrived. However, when it came less than a week<\/span> later, Anthony was crushed\nbecause I had<\/span> mistakenly forgotten to order a light<\/span>-colored helmet, and\nthat one missing piece caused everything to grind to a halt.<\/span> (His\nimagination was pretty well fixed on what he wanted, so the missing piece\nwas a show<\/span> stopper.)<\/p>\n\n

There was another problem with the order... Warehouse19 had sent too\nmany of the flowers. But since<\/span> I was<\/span> going to place another order for the\nhelmet, I thought<\/span> I'd just pay for the flowers rather than go to the hassle\nof returning them, so I wrote<\/span> Warehouse19 a note<\/span> about the helmet (please\nsend) and flowers (I'll pay; just send the five needed stems) and\nimmediately got a reply<\/span> that they'd be happy to just send it all For free.<\/p>\n\n

And they did.<\/p>\n\n

They merely asked that we tell our friends about them... good word of\nmouth, you know... so I let<\/span> them known that I'd certainly be doing a blog<\/span>\npost about it because I like<\/span> to capture Anthony's creativity.<\/p>\n\n

However, I'm still<\/span> my lazy self, so it took a month<\/span> before getting\naround to taking the pictures. I suppose<\/span> it's a testament<\/span> to Anthony's\nhappiness with the result that the mockup has lasted that long. I'm prompted<\/span> to make this post now because he's ready to place another order\nwith Warehouse19, and I feel<\/span> we should give this public thanks for their\nkindness before we move on to another order.<\/p>\n\n
