I'll post and\nwrite more another day, but today just <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> photos. (For an introduction\nto the event, see my &#8220;<a href='\/blog\/2008-02-03\/712'\nclass='pt'>Setsubun and Mamemaki: Driving out the Demons<\/a>&#8221; post\nfrom four years ago.)<\/p>\n\n<p>The picture above is from the bonfire event, described in my &#8220;<a\nclass='pt' href='\/blog\/2008-02-06\/716'>Intense Burn:\nShinto Rite at the Heian Shrine<\/a>&#8221; post. <span class='nobr'>A line of<\/span> priests was chanting\nas others threw bundles of sticks with wishes written on them (the wishes\nthen going up with the smoke to the heavens, or something like that).<\/p>\n\n<p>I'm surprised in the photo above how much the background is still out of focus at f\/11. <span class='nobr'>The flames<\/span> were quite angry....<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><a name=\"106825\" href='\/i\/JF7_106825.jpg'\n><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/JF7_106825_sm.jpg\" width=\"690\" height=\"459\"\nalt=\"\"\nid=\"i106825\"\nphotostream=\"japan\"\/><\/a>\n<br\/><span class=\"camera-info robots-nocontent\">Nikon D700 + Nikkor 300mm f\/2 &mdash; <sup>1<\/sup><big>\/<\/big>2500 sec, <span class='f'>f<\/span>\/2, ISO 200 &mdash;\n<a href='\/imageinfo.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fregex.info%2Fi%2FJF7_106825.jpg'>map &amp; image data<\/a> &mdash; <a href='\/blog\/proximity\/i\/JF7_106825.jpg'>nearby photos<\/a><\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>I processed these photos with <span class='nobr'>Lightroom 4<\/span> and its new render engine, and\n<span class='nobr'>I notice<\/span> that the flames retain much more of their true orange color. This\nis wonderful, as it always bothered me how bright, intense colors <a\nhref='\/blog\/2008-08-06\/901'>got washed out toward\nwhite<\/a>, leaving the flames in the <a\nhref='\/blog\/2008-02-06\/716'>intense-burn post<\/a> more\nyellow than orange.
