St\u00e9phane Barbery<\/a>\ninvited me today to visit a temple<\/span> and shrine near Mt. Yoshida, an area a\n20<\/span>-minute walk from my place that he introduced to me<\/a> a few<\/span>\nyears ago.<\/p>\n\n

In the years since, I've gone by the steps seen above many times, but\nI'd never actually gone up them, but today I was<\/span> continuing my slight walking-for-health\nkick<\/a> and had arrived on foot, so I took<\/span> them.<\/p>\n\n

I'd hauled my tank of a Nikkor 300mm f\/2<\/a> because St\u00e9phane had found a good<\/span>\nvantage point for a photo<\/span> of the neighboring temple, but it turns out that\nconditions weren't ideal, and to make matters worse, the polarizing filter<\/a> that I\nthought<\/span> I brought<\/span> turned out to have been an ND filter. Doh!<\/p>\n\n

So, the photos from there were horrible.... even after heavy processing\nin Lightroom, you can only barely make out that the entire backdrop is a\ntree<\/span>-covered mountainside ...<\/p>\n\n

In all these years I'd never actually been to that temple, though I'd\nseen the pagoda from time to time, including in this shot<\/a> from\nlast year.<\/p>\n\n

So, St\u00e9phane brought me over to show me.<\/p>\n\n

I wasn't allowed to use a monopod in the temple complex, and 300mm was\ntoo tight (too much zoom) for the situation anyway, so I switched<\/span> to my\nVoigtl\u00e4nder 125mm, but not before I got<\/span> this shot, which I sorta<\/span>'\nlike...<\/p>\n\n

I then switched to the smaller lens, and we strolled around the pleasant\ngrounds. There were a fair<\/span> number of people, but the mood was somehow\ndecidedly uncrowded. The temple<\/span> grounds are not all that large, but there\nwas a wide<\/span> variety of scenes... different mixes of colors, textures,\nangles...<\/p>\n\n

That last one reminds me of last season's “Heading Home<\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n

This next shot, looking up at a steep<\/span> angle to some leaves near the\ntemple roof sloping down at an odd angle gives me a slight<\/span> sense of\nvertigo...<\/p>\n\n
