In one sense, photographing an ikebana<\/a> display can be like\nshooting fish in a barrel<\/span> or hunting game in a zoo.<\/span>.. everything is sitting\nright before you just waiting for you to point and click, but on the other\nhand, having to choose what to photograph — how to frame it, from\nwhat angle... how to expose it, where to focus it, and how thin or thick to\nset the depth of field — raises things to a whole<\/span> new artistic\nchallenge. Offer the same floral arrangement in the same situation to 10\ngood photographers, and I'd guess you'd come up with 10 utterly different\nresults, as each “sees” something different.<\/p>\n\n

As I have for the last several years, I went to<\/span> an annual ikebana show\nthat some friends display their work in. I first<\/span> posted about it four years\nago here<\/a> and here<\/a>, and then again last\nyear here<\/a> and here<\/a>. Those posts give a\ngood<\/span> idea for the feeling of the ikebana show (which, incidentally, is not\na good<\/span> place to see ikebana because each ikebana display is intended for a\nspecific<\/span> setting, and it's unlikely that any are intended for the mood of a\nbare<\/span> folding table with a dozen<\/span> others under mixed incandescent\/fluorescent\nlight in a large<\/span> conference room).<\/p>\n\n
