I've been crazy busy lately with my Lightroom plugins<\/a>, a\ntranspacific<\/span> flight (complicated by a back<\/span> that went out 10 minutes before\nleaving for the airport :-(), visiting with family, and fending off jetlag.\nPosts will likely be sparse for a while.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It's been a while since I posted anything from the Uji mountain trips\nI made<\/span> a couple<\/span> of months ago. (The first trip produced a bunch<\/span> of posts starting with “Exquisite Beauty Growing Like\na Weed<\/span> by the Side of the Road<\/a>”; the second trip's posts started with\n“Pleasant\nLittle Village in Uji<\/a>”.)<\/p>\n\n

On that second trip, after leaving Ice-Cream\nGirl<\/a>, while winding our way up through some uninhabited mountain roads,\nnear a pass<\/span> I briefly<\/span> noticed a flash<\/span> of railing disappearing into the woods.\nCurious, I backed<\/span> up.<\/p>\n\n

The stairs disappeared up into the overgrowth, and were covered with a thick<\/span> spongy layer of moss...<\/p>\n\n

Halfway up there was a small landing, then another flight that added a bed<\/span> of dried pine needles over the\nmoss...<\/p>\n\n

At the top, there was nothing of interest. Absolutely nothing.<\/p>\n\n

I'd guess that all the trees were less than 20 or 30 years old, which\nalso feels about how long the stairs had been unused, so perhaps long ago\nthis was some kind of cleared observation area: without the growth, it\nprobably would have had a commanding<\/span> view of the little village with the\nIce-Cream Girl cafe.<\/p>\n\n

Still, there was no sign of human activity beyond the last step, so it\nfelt quite eerie.<\/p>\n\n\n

Near the bottom of the stairs were some ferns. I'm a sucker<\/span> for ferns.<\/p>\n\n\n
