The trip the other day that produced “Exquisite Beauty\nGrowing Like a Weed<\/span> by the Side of the Road<\/a>” was a lazy<\/span> no-plan drive\nthrough some sparsely-populated mountains south-east of Kyoto, in Uji City\n(famous as the setting for The Tale of\nGenji<\/i><\/a>, so I hear<\/span>). Driving on the edge of a small<\/span> valley, the\nviews of the rice paddies were stereotypical small-village Japan...<\/p>\n\n

This was the first outing of my little lens<\/a> with a\nproper<\/span> monopod. It's the same<\/span> monopod body I've had for years<\/a>, but I\ngot<\/span> rid of the piece-of-crap Manfrotto #3232 head, replacing it with the Really\nRight Stuff<\/i> MH-01<\/b> Hi-Capacity Monopod Head<\/a> that, despite the Kool-Kidz “Hi” instead of “High”, is a\nsolid,<\/span> well-made head that far outclasses the Manfrotto head it replaced.<\/p>\n\n\n

Here's another of the Roadside Beauty<\/i> shots, almost identical\nto one I posted<\/span><\/a> the\nother day, but the plane of focus in this one is just a smidgen<\/span> further\nback such that almost nothing appears to be in focus, giving it a\ncompletely<\/span> different vibe when viewed full screen...<\/p>\n\n
