After picking up my new\nlens<\/a> in Roppongi earlier this month, I thought<\/span> I'd better nourish up\nbefore walking around for some big-lens street\nphotography<\/a>, and had the good fortune to walk into Le Grand Soir<\/a>. The style<\/span> was modern\nurban sophisticated (the chef used to work in Paris), but without any pretense or ostentation.<\/p>\n\n

I had a lightly seasoned breaded chicken leg, and it was without\nquestion, by far... utterly in a class<\/span> by itself... the best piece of chicken I\nhave<\/span> ever had. Anywhere. (Sorry Mom.)<\/p>\n\n

Really, with food this good, there's no way to calculate “value”, but\nthe whole lunch was a shockingly<\/span> low 1,000 yen (about US$13). Best. Value.\nOn. The. Planet. I think<\/span> it's because they just recently opened, and are\ntrying to drum up some word of mouth. It's worked. If I'm anywhere within\n100 miles again, I'll treat myself again. It's just that<\/span> good.<\/p>\n\n

Japanese and English spoken, and I presume<\/span> French. Le Grand<\/span> Soir is a\nminute<\/span> or two west of Roppongi Station's Exit #2. The map on their site<\/a> is utterly worthless,\nso use\nthis one instead<\/a>. It's in a<\/span> basement level, so the only presence on the\nstreet is their unassuming door, and a menu<\/span> signboard:<\/p>\n\n

While standing outside the restaurant to figure out how I'd carry the\nnew big lens with all my other stuff, a business<\/span> man came by and checked\nout the menu board.
