We were driving around the very-rural countryside of Toyooka, Japan the other day at dusk,\nwhen the beauty of some hills rising out of the mist caught my eye, and I stopped<\/span> to snap some pictures.<\/p>\n\n

The first picture shows the slightest hint of the sunset glow still remains...<\/p>\n\n

I ended up chatting for a while with a farmer<\/span> preparing his field for\nrice (it's his white truck in the center of the second photo). By the time<\/span>\nI left,<\/span> it was very dark, but the D700's low-light prowess<\/a>\nbrightens everything up. The lead photo<\/span> is the last one I took.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Here's one near the end that I processed in Lightroom to give a feeling<\/span>\nthat matches the “layered” look that I remembered,<\/span> but which didn't show up\nso well in the photos....<\/p>\n\n

I sub-captioned the first photo “(sort of)” because while I thought<\/span> it\nwas an evening mist at the time, I realized<\/span> today that it was probably\nkosa<\/i>, the very\nfine yellow sand<\/a> that blows in from China in the spring, turning day\ninto a thick<\/span> hazy cloud. It was really<\/span> strong all day today for the drive\nback, and now that I think<\/span> about it, the evening “mist” the other day must\nhave been the start of the dust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
