In my previous post, about factually-incorrect hype<\/a>\nof a photo<\/span>-editing application that claimed it provided “Layers in\nLightroom”, I noted<\/span> that an idea had come to me to almost actually provide\n“Layers in Lightroom”.<\/p>\n\n

I had a proof-of-concept version out to friends that evening, but it's\ntaken a couple<\/span> of days to spiff it up enough for a beta<\/span> release.<\/p>\n\n

It's slow and a bit kludgy — definitely not<\/i> “Layers in\nLightroom” — but unlike other external-editor solutions like the\nhyped app, this plugin allows for a non destructive<\/b> workflow.<\/p>\n\n

With it, you build a persistent link<\/b> between images in Lightroom\nand layers in a new<\/span> Photoshop PSD that's added to your Lightroom catalog. You can edit<\/span> that new PSD pretty much as you like... add new layers,\nresize, crop, transform, mask, add text layers, run actions and filters,\nedit pixels, etc.<\/p>\n\n

But the key here is that if you make subsequent edits to the\noriginals in Lightroom, those edits are reflected through the Photoshop\nedits and back into the composite in Lightroom.<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n

Some might call this a “game changer” :-). I'm not sure<\/span> I'd go that far,\nbut it'll sure be handy at times.<\/p>\n\n

The plugin\npage<\/a> explains it more, but all in all, this plugin might be described as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It's still very beta, so I'm looking for feedback of all kinds,\nincluding how you find it useful, where it's not quite enough to be useful,\netc.<\/p>\n\n

Frankly, the method I've come up with for this plugin could be used with\nPerfect Layers<\/i> (and other editing applications) if some\nrelatively-small hooks were added to them and their companion Lightroom\nplugins, and so if OnOne is watching, here's your chance to have your\nproduct actually come close to living up to its hype.
