This post picks up from yesterday's post<\/a> about\nour relaxing bike ride over the long Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge in Imabari\nJapan. The photo<\/span> above is from the bike path that juts out a bit<\/span> from the\nbridge proper as it makes its way around one of the huge suspension towers. The island<\/span> and tower visible in the foreground are at about the halfway\npoint of the bridge.<\/p>\n\n

We paused for a bit...<\/p>\n\n

We eventually made our way to the end of the bridge, at which point the bike path peels off, and the expressway eventually dives into a tunnel.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The “peel off” is via a nice<\/span> long loop that looked to be fun....<\/p>\n\n

The bike path then followed city streets down to a small<\/span> village, where\nwe stopped for lunch, and had ice cream with our feet hanging over the edge\nof a small<\/span> pier.<\/p>\n\n

Eventually we continued on the surface streets on a path<\/span> that would link\nus back up with the expressway, but it soon involved an unfun, steep uphill\nportion...<\/p>\n\n

At that point we decided to turn around and head home. We'd ridden<\/span> only about 6.5km, but it was fun and enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n

We made our way back under the bridge to the windy path that eventually\nleads back up to the bridge deck. Part of the path was really pretty, and\nFumie wanted to go back and do it several times, so Anthony and I took<\/span> the\nopportunity to rest, and take a few<\/span> pics. Anthony tried with my camera, so\nI got<\/span> one of him with the compact camera...<\/p>\n\n

Things had changed quit a bit in the two hours since we had last been on\nthe bridge. The air was<\/span> much more hazy, but the water had changed\nconsiderably as the tide had gone out, and the surface of the water had\nbecome an almost white-water-rafting kind of churning cauldron of\ntidal-whirlpool frenzy.<\/p>\n\n

It doesn't come out in the photo very well, of course, but here's sort of what it looked like...<\/p>\n\n

Once we got back and returned our bikes to where we'd rented them (Sunrise Itoyama<\/a>, \u30b5\u30f3\u30e9\u30a4\u30ba\u7cf8\u5c71),<\/span> and\nchecked out their cafe. The view was<\/span> fantastic...<\/p>\n\n

We'll definitely go back for the cafe if we pass this way again.<\/p>\n\n

So, that's the end of the bike ride, but not the end of the day: having exercised quite a bit,<\/span>\nwe certainly deserved a bit<\/span> of hot-springs-spa relaxation, and so we headed south to the city of Matsuyama.<\/p>\n\n
