I glanced out the window to notice some little kids playing with the\nfallen cherry-blossom petals, and ran to grab the camera...<\/p>\n\n\n

Unfortunately, when I grabbed the camera, neglected to notice that I'd\nleft it in a five<\/span>-stop exposure-bracket mode, so only every fifth frame was\nreasonably exposed. (For non camera geeks, this is only slightly better\nthan leaving the lens cap on, or forgetting to put in film.) At least I was<\/span>\nable to recover something from most of them, because I shoot<\/span> in raw\nformat<\/a>, not JPEG.<\/p>\n\n

These trees along the river quickly started molting the day after I\nposted<\/span> “Lunch\nUnder the Cherry Blossoms<\/a>”, and now they're mostly a splotchy<\/span> mess of\nblossoms, leaves, and stems, changing on a per<\/span>-branch basis. The following<\/span> pictures are from the same two or three trees right above the river...<\/p>\n\n

A wonderful effect when they start losing the blossoms are big\nexplosions of petals when a gust<\/span> of wind comes along... a sudden<\/span> flurry of\nsakura snow. It's absolutely<\/span> beautiful, but not too easy to capture in a\nstill<\/span> picture. The “snow” from someone throwing a fist<\/span> full of blossoms is\na bit<\/span> easier... I think<\/span> I have<\/span> a few<\/span> nice ones in last year's “Fistfuls of Blossoms in Urban\nKyoto<\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the little kids, still sans adults for an uncomfortably long\ntime, had moved from petals to rocks...<\/p>\n\n

Throwing rocks into\nbodies of water<\/a> seem to be a universal<\/span> constant in the kid-desire\nuniverse.<\/p>\n\n
