Well, perhaps not the first in all of Japan, considering that the\ncherry-blossom season can start in early January<\/a> in\nthe southern islands, and also not first considering that some varieties of\ncherry have been blossoming for weeks already here in Kyoto, but this morning I\nfound<\/span> the first cherry blossom in the local area, which is populated with\nJapan's “standard” Yoshino Cherry<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

I was happy to have noticed the one single blossom among all the buds on\nall the trees around. By the time<\/span> I returned<\/span> from some errands, more had\nappeared, but this was the lone blossom at the time, so I feel<\/span> “special”\nfor having found it. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n\n

It's been cold since “Cherry\nBlossoms on the Verge<\/a>” three days ago, even with a bit<\/span> of snow the other day. Exactly one year ago today we had some snow (“Cherry Blossoms in\nthe Driving Snow<\/a>”), but with a temperature<\/span> steady today at\n14°C (57°F), it was short-sleeve weather if you were of a mind<\/span> for\nit. Rain is moving in as I write<\/span> this in the late afternoon... I wonder<\/span> whether we'll get snow tonight.<\/p>\n\n

Looking at the photo in the year-ago post<\/a> that I\nmentioned<\/span> above, I'm struck<\/span> at how full the blossoms were on March 29<\/span> last\nyear (maybe 30%) compared to this year (0.0001%). Looking at my cherry-blossom timelapse<\/a>\nfrom photos taken in 2007, it looks like last year was on time and this\nyear is a couple<\/span> of days late. In any case<\/span>, next weekend and the week after\nshould be glorious, and I'm definitely looking forward to some cherry-blossom Joie de\nVivre<\/i><\/a> if the weather is nice.<\/p>\n\n

On a different note, yesterday Fumie's brother and his wife<\/a> visited for lunch, and for dessert we had a variety<\/span> of\nsnacks, including some cherry-blossom laden sweets Fumie picked up at a local<\/span> bakery....<\/p>\n\n
