In a week the area of Kyoto around where I live<\/span> will be packed with blossoms<\/a> and\npacked with people enjoying\nthem<\/a>, but for the moment things are pretty sparse...<\/p>\n\n

The cherry-blossom timelapse<\/a> that I posted<\/span> a few<\/span> years ago starts on this date, and if the same schedule holds (which it normally does...\nthe blossom season being early or late by more than a day<\/span> is notable news) shows that by a week<\/span> from now, the trees will be well on their way toward full bloom. Full bloom will likely hit\nin about 10 or 11 days.<\/p>\n\n

At the moment, you do start to see some pink up close, though when they bloom it'll be all white...<\/p>\n\n

In an effort to help myself feel better about enjoying the beauty of\nnature when so many people have so recently been crushed by its powerful\nand unforgiving side, this cherry blossom season I will<\/span> consider each\nblossom to be the re-emerging spirit of an earthquake\/tsunami victim. It's\ncorny, I know,<\/span> but makes me feel nice.<\/p>\n\n

On a different note, walking past this duck, I caught<\/span> the reflections of\nthe overcast sky in a way<\/span> that made for an interesting pattern with the\nduck...<\/p>\n\n

I enhanced the original vibe with full-hilt “positive clarity”\nin Lightroom. Lightroom's “clarity” brings out the local contrast, making\nfor a gritter<\/span> result like seen above, though I tend<\/span> to use it more in its\nnegative sense (“negative clarity”), which lends a dreamy<\/span> soft feeling like\nseen in several\nshots here<\/a>, or when taken to even further extremes, like this<\/a> or this<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
