Japanese culture has people sending New Year's\ncards<\/a> en masse just before the end of the year, with Japan Post\nholding them until the morning of January First, at which point they then deliver\nthem in accumulated bundles to households across Japan.<\/p>\n\n

The card above is what we sent this year, with pictures we took in the middle of\nan (almost) deserted road near\nthe ancient but far-removed\nSokushouji Temple<\/a> in rural Shiga Prefecture, on the same\nouting when\nwe made a family<\/span> visit<\/a> to the temple in November.<\/p>\n\n

To take the photos, I set the<\/span> camera up on a tripod<\/span><\/a> and set for a\nphoto<\/span> to be taken once every second, and we just stood for a while<\/span> as the\nshutter clicked. The area is<\/span> so off the beaten path that moss actually\ngrows on the road. In the half<\/span> an hour we were there, three cars came\nby, so it must have been rush hour.<\/p>\n\n
