I like Amazon.com, and use both its US and Japan sites all the time, but\nI've never seen such wasteful packaging as I did<\/span> with an order that\nrecently arrived via forklift from Amazon Japan. The six boxes<\/span> in the lower\npart of the stack are fairly spacious, but five of them each contain\nexactly one<\/b> sliver-thin 15” ×\n15”<\/span> LEGO\u00ae Base\nPlate<\/a>, a couple<\/span> of crumpled pieces of paper as ineffective padding, and\na lot<\/span> of air...<\/p>\n\n\n

It's fantastically ridiculous. The entire<\/span> order, shown below, could have easily\nfit into any two of the boxes..<\/p>\n\n

Heck, the empty boxes, even when flattened and stacked, still took up\nsubstantially more room than the products. It was by<\/span> far the most\nridiculous packaging I've ever seen or even heard of.<\/p>\n\n

It's all the more amazing because Amazon takes proactive steps to reduce\npackaging and related hassles, with their “Frustration-Free\nPackaging<\/a>” initiative, and even some products that ship without product\npackaging (I've gotten some computer cables that arrived loose in a small<\/span>\nbox together with the other items I ordered<\/span>). If you visit<\/span> your order at\nAmazon after you've received it, you'll even find a prompt<\/span> asking for your\ncomments on how it was packaged.
