{"id":162,"date":"2006-03-21T15:59:22","date_gmt":"2006-03-21T06:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-03-21\/162"},"modified":"2006-03-21T16:00:12","modified_gmt":"2006-03-21T07:00:12","slug":"the-best-way-to-lose-weight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-03-21\/162","title":{"rendered":"The Best Way to Lose Weight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p>\n\nI went to the <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-02-13\/150\">gym<\/a>\nyesterday for the first time in four weeks, having been away so long at\nfirst due to a <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-03-04\/156\">nasty\ncold<\/a>, and then a <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-03-07\/158\">trip<\/a> <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-03-14\/159\">to<\/a> <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-03-16\/160\">Malaysia<\/a>.\n\n<\/p>   \n<p>\n\nI track my weight at the gym, and as <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-02-13\/150\">mentioned before<\/a>, I've\nbeen losing weight steadily. Yesterday, <span class='nobr'>I found<\/span> that I'd lost another 1.4\nkg (3 pounds) in the intervening month since my last visit, and now am at <span class='nobr'>a\nmany<\/span>-year low of 92.4kg (204lb). At 6'4&quot; (192cm), my target is 200 lb\n(91kg), so I'm almost there.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nAnyway, <span class='nobr'>I'm trying<\/span> to guess what it was that allowed me to lose three\npounds in the last month, despite almost no exercise, and have come up with\n<span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> possibilities:\n\n<\/p>\n<ul>\n\n  <li><p>It's all from the <a\n         href=\"\/blog\/2006-03-04\/156\">nasty cold<\/a>, which\n         really took <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> out of me.<\/p><\/li>\n\n  <li><p>After all the chocolate I ate on Valentine's day, <span class='nobr'>I got onto<\/span> somewhat of <span class='nobr'>a sweet<\/span>-tooth kick, and since then have been\n         <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span> heavy on the cakes, custards, ice creams, cookies, cupcakes,\n         muffins, etc. <span class='nobr'>It's been a<\/span> diet heavy on everything, and maybe that's the key to losing weight? <b>\ud83d\ude42<\/b><\/p><\/li>\n\n\n  <li><p>The copious quantities of mildly-spicy food we ate in Malaysia are\n        somehow good for the diet?<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n  <li><p>The disruption of my normal eating habits, due to travel. Normally <span class='nobr'>I eat<\/span> <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> of cereal for breakfast,\n       or, really, any time we're not eating out or Fumie's not\n       cooking. <span class='nobr'>And I like<\/span> munchies at night. <span class='nobr'>I did without<\/span> those while\n       sick and in Malaysia.<\/p><\/li>\n\n  <li><p>Swimming at the beach and at the hotel pool?<\/p><\/li>\n\n\n  <li><p>Previous visits to the gym have upped my metabolism such that <span class='nobr'>I\ncan<\/span> lose weight even while being <span class='nobr'>a couch<\/span> potato with <span class='nobr'>a beer<\/span> and\nchips?<\/p><\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>I was fitted for a suit yesterday -- I'm buying <span class='nobr'>a suit<\/span> for the first\ntime in 10+ years. <span class='nobr'>The guy measured<\/span> my waist at 94cm (37&#8221;), which is <span class='nobr'>a bit<\/span>\nmore than what <span class='nobr'>I sort<\/span> of think <span class='nobr'>I should<\/span> be at (32&#8221;), but <span class='nobr'>I guess<\/span> that's\nwhen <span class='nobr'>I was<\/span> in my 20s and had no build and no fat (and weighted 180lbs). <span class='nobr'>I really<\/span> should be at about 36&#8221;, so <span class='nobr'>I do<\/span> have <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> more pounds to lose. At\nleast, <span class='nobr'>I'd like to<\/span> keep my waist measurement less than my inseam\nmeasurement, and so 36&#8221; is the magic point.<\/p>\n\n<p>Update: many years later, I'm <a href='\/blog\/2012-07-26\/2056'>in much better shape<\/a>, at about 79kg (175lbs) with a ~30&#8221; waist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> I went to the gym yesterday for the first time in four weeks, having been away so long at first due to a nasty cold, and then a trip to Malaysia. <\/p> <p> I track my weight at the gym, and as mentioned before, I've been losing weight steadily.
