Monday started off busy, with a visit<\/span> to a bounce<\/span> house, “Monster Play”<\/a>, some baseball<\/a>, and walks by the lake<\/a>, but it\nended with even more activity.<\/p>\n\n

I wrote the other day about clearing a tree<\/span><\/a> that had fallen<\/a> in my folks'\nbackyard. I'd written<\/span> in the other posts that it was a sumac,<\/span> but Ron's\ncomment<\/a> that it seemed to be the similar-looking Tree of Heaven<\/a>\nprompted my mom to look into it further, and she's decided he's right. It does seem<\/span> to match better than sumac... Wikipedia says it can reach a\nheight<\/span> of 27 meters, and I guessed<\/span> this one was 21 meters, and it says that\nit rarely lives more than 50 years, and this one was small when we moved\nhere 44 years ago. Mom says “Thanks!”, Ron.<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, my dad waited to clear the rest because we thought Anthony's\ncousins Josh and Jena<\/a>\nmight want to watch, so now that they're here he started phase two of the clearing.<\/p>\n\n

The first thing was to try to roll the bulk of the tree away from the\nsmall redbud tree<\/a> that\nwas half crushed but still alive under it. (I didn't<\/span> know what a “redbud”\nwas, but apparently they're in Kyoto as well: I'd posted some pretty photos of\none<\/a> that was just outside my place, in a post<\/span> earlier this year about\nthe Sigma's new 50-500mm\n“Bigma”<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n
