My dad started to clear the tree that fell yesterday<\/a>,\ndonning some grubby clothes and breaking out the backhoe and chainsaw, much\nlike the last time<\/a> a\ntree<\/span> fell while we were in town.<\/p>\n\n

Today's agenda was for the removal of the biggest parts of the trunk,\nwhich is a one<\/span>-man job (if the one man has a chainsaw<\/span> and backhoe), so\nAnthony and I were<\/span> relegated to observer. It's just as<\/span> well, because\nAnthony was wearing the\nshirt he made with Aunt Natalie<\/a> last year, and I wouldn't<\/span> want to see\nit get sap or whatnot on it. I'm sure there<\/span> will be plenty to help with\nonce the big stuff is out of the way, and Anthony is hoping that it'll turn\ninto an opportunity to use the tractor<\/a> that he got to drive a bit<\/span><\/a>\nlast year.<\/p>\n\n\n

There's absolutely nothing particularly interesting about the shot above, but for some reason it's one of my favorites.<\/p>\n\n\n

The way the trunk settled as it was cut called for a second,<\/span> shallow cut\nnear the first, and when the trunk rolled free, a piece<\/span> of the wedge from\nbetween the two broke off, and made the layers of the ring structure all\nthe more apparent...<\/p>\n\n

Before hauling the big trunk off, we noticed a little<\/span> frog hopping\naround in the bucket of backhoe, so I chased<\/span> it out and gave it to Anthony\nto hold, but it didn't stay held long...<\/p>\n\n
