I posted yesterday about Kyoto's Kamo River\noverflowing its banks<\/a>. It's pretty<\/span> mild flooding by many standards, but\nI thought<\/span> I'd post some more photos for those who might know the area and find them interesting.<\/p>\n\n

There are actually two rivers in the photo above, that rising waters have merged. For comparison,\nhere's a shot<\/span> from that side, but downriver a bit<\/span> looking back up, showing the two rivers and why\nI caption<\/span> it “Gathering Spot”...<\/p>\n\n

In the “Gathering Spot” photo, there's a bit<\/span> of blue almost directly in\ncenter frame. That's a “bib” (for lack of a better<\/span> understanding on my\npart) on some kind of statue, seen in this next shot from a couple<\/span> of years\nago with a red<\/span> bib:<\/p>\n\n

You can see in this shot the smaller, higher river, and way in the\nbackground the mostly-dry bed of the Kamo river. I show this<\/span> photo because\na few<\/span> hours before I arrived<\/span> to take photos yesterday, the water was\napparently up to this statue, but had subsided by a half<\/span> a meter<\/span> or so by\nthe time I got<\/span> there.<\/p>\n\n\n

The center of the swollen river in this area was an angry zone of intense\nliquid turbulence, with mountains of water heaving in a violent<\/span> frenzy that\nwas mostly limited only to this narrow zone. The “splashes” of water in the\nphoto are the size of cars.<\/p>\n\n

Moving to the north side of Sanjo again, here's a shot<\/span> looking across to\nthe Sanjo Starbucks....<\/p>\n\n
