{"id":156,"date":"2006-03-04T19:15:48","date_gmt":"2006-03-04T10:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-03-04\/156"},"modified":"2006-03-04T19:15:48","modified_gmt":"2006-03-04T10:15:48","slug":"you-do-not-want-to-catch-this-bug","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-03-04\/156","title":{"rendered":"You do <i>not<\/i> want to catch this bug"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nI don't know whether it was flu or <span class='nobr'>a common<\/span> cold or SARS or <i>what<\/i>,\nbut whatever it was <b>lay waste<\/b> to me and my family this week. <span class='nobr'>In my case<\/span>, Thursday was the first day since Sunday that my temperature didn't\nrise above 40C (104F), and today (Saturday) is the first day that <span class='nobr'>I have<\/span> no\nfever at all (well, so far).\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nIt started a week ago (Saturday) with Anthony having <span class='nobr'>a mild<\/span> cough. <span class='nobr'>On Sunday<\/span> he had <span class='nobr'>a temperature<\/span> up to 40C, and Fumie was feeling bad too. <span class='nobr'>It hit me<\/span> on Monday with <span class='nobr'>a force<\/span> I've never been hit before. <span class='nobr'>It's been the<\/span>\nworst cold <span class='nobr'>I can<\/span> ever remember (and <span class='nobr'>I can<\/span> remember <span class='nobr'>a lot,<\/span> considering that\nthis is my <a href=\"\/blog\/2006-02-06\/144\">fourth cold<\/a>\nthis year).\n\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n\nWhatever bug is responsible is very persistent. With all of us, the cold\nseems to &#8220;break&#8221; (we wake up in <span class='nobr'>a cold<\/span> sweat and soaked\nclothes) and we think we're over the worst of it, but it comes back with\ngusto the next day. <span class='nobr'>For me that<\/span> was three days in <span class='nobr'>a row,<\/span> with Thursday\nfinally having just a &#8220;normal&#8221; mild cold all day. Today\n(Saturday) is the first day for me without any fever, although <span class='nobr'>I still<\/span> have\nvery little energy and am so tired my eyes feel like they're falling out\n(yet for some reason just can not sleep). Fumie had it bad even longer.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nThank God for Fumie's mom, who lives next to us -- she was able to look\nafter Anthony much of the time Fumie and <span class='nobr'>I were<\/span> incoherent. <span class='nobr'>I'm also thankful<\/span> for &#8220;Dora the Explorer&#8221;, which we used to babysit\nAnthony during much of the rest of the time. <span class='nobr'>He's seen more<\/span> video this week\nthan all the previous days of his life combined. And Anthony's cold was\nrelatively mild and short-lived, likely thanks to Fumie having gotten him <span class='nobr'>a\nflu<\/span> shot <span class='nobr'>a month<\/span> ago.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nAt least it happened this week and not next; on Monday we're all heading to\nMalaysia for two weeks, to visit Fumie's dad, who's there on <span class='nobr'>a long<\/span>-term\nwork assignment.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> I don't know whether it was flu or a common cold or SARS or what, but whatever it was <b>lay waste<\/b> to me and my family this week.
