I can't believe that I haven't posted anything this month besides\nLightroom stuff. Last year I posted<\/span> 2,082 photos in 268 posts<\/a>,\nbut my running rate for this month extrapolates out to zero real posts.\nWhere did Spring 2010 go? (The answer is “Lightroom 3<\/span>” of course, but today\nis the first time since its release that I'm actually just using it as a\nnormal<\/span> user, on my own photos, for pleasure. Ah, but what a pleasure<\/span> it is...)<\/p>\n\n

Anyway, still no time for a real post, but I wanted<\/span> to put some color up\nto enliven myself, so here's a sunset<\/span> from late April, from central-Japan's Awaji\nIsland<\/a>, taken five minutes before this one<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

I took it with the new\nSigma Bigma<\/a> with the Sigma 2<\/span>× teleconverter at 1,000mm. As I reported<\/span> earlier<\/a>, with\nthe TC (or, perhaps, due to it) it's pretty soft and mushy at 1,000, but\nit's not such a problem<\/span> for something like this.<\/p>\n\n

I'd like to take it up to Kyoto's Shogunzuka\noverlook<\/a> for a good<\/span> sunset, if I could<\/span> ever find one. I've been looking,\nas evidenced\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>,\nhere<\/a>, and\nhere<\/a>,\namong others, I'm sure.<\/p>\n\n

And HOLY COW<\/b>, when lightning strikes in downtown Kyoto (which is near a lot<\/span> of short mountains),\nit reverberates with tremendous force<\/i> for a long<\/i> time, as I just<\/span> found out at 12:56am as I was<\/span>\njust about to post this. I grew up<\/span> in Ohio where major thunderboomeers are common, and I've been within 30 feet\nof a direct<\/span> lightning strike, but I've never heard anything like the shot that hit somewhere about a half<\/span> a mile<\/span>\nsouth of me. Holy cow, it was powerful.<\/p>\n\n

And crap, three minutes later and fire sirens are starting to blare. It was in<\/span> the general direction of Kiyomizu Temple<\/a>, but there\nare oodles of temples all around here, so this doesn't bode well....\n)-:<\/p>\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
