(NOT!)\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nLooking straight up from where <span class='nobr'>I took<\/span> the first shot, you can see in the\nphoto below the utility pole closest to the other side of the entrance. <span class='nobr'>All the wires<\/span> strung between the two go right across the face of the building.\n\n<\/p>\n\n<div class='ic'><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/i\/_JEF2067.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"435\"\nalt=\"Utility Pole Closest to Our Place (East Side)\"\nid=\"iJEF2067\"\nstyle=\"padding: 20px\"\ntitle=\"tangle of wires\"\/>\n<br\/><span class='caption'>Utility Pole Closest to Our Place (East Side)<\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Double yuck.<\/p>\n\n<p>\n\nFrankly, since these poles and masses of wires are pretty much ubiquitous,\nyou quickly and naturally learn to &#8220;tune them out&#8221; in everyday\nlife. However, they are a <b>huge eyesore<\/b> when they show up in\nphotographs. You'll see <span class='nobr'>a lot<\/span> of wires. <b>)-:<\/b>\n\n<\/p>\n<h3>I'm getting my wish!<\/h3>\n\n<p>\n\nWe just found out that our street (Nioomon-dori) will undergo nine months\nof horrendous construction, the aim of which is to bury all the wires and\nremove all the poles. <span class='nobr'>Our section<\/span> of the street will be under construction\nfrom the beginning of April until the end of October.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nIt will certainly make for a traffic nightmare. But I <b><i>can't\nwait<\/i><\/b> for the result; it will be so beautiful.<\/p>\n\n<p><b>UPDATE:<\/b> Sadly, it turns out that they didn't remove the utility poles or wires. They widened the\nsidewalk and made it very nice, and paved the street, but they said that the wires and poles will remain\nfor <span class='nobr'>a few<\/span> more years <b>)-:<\/b>\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> There are a lot of wires strung across the sky in Japan.
