As I mentioned in the previous post, on Friday we went to KidZania<\/a>, a wonderful<\/span>\nplace covered in these many\nposts<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Unlike the first time, which was crammed full of families at absolute\ncapacity, this time was on a school<\/span> day that Anthony had off, and there\nwere only about half the kids (capacity is 800 kids, and there were about\n400, we were told). The breathing<\/span> room made it much<\/i> more enjoyable,\nespecially for the parents because you could move easily when you wanted,\nand sit when you wanted. For the kids<\/span>, there was a lot<\/span> less waiting...\noften, Anthony didn't have to wait at all, and was the only one doing an\nactivity, such as the radio announcer<\/a> of\nyesterday (which normally is a task<\/span> shared among six kids, as seen in this post\nfrom last year<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

Last year Anthony's must-do-first job was working at a gas<\/span> station<\/a>.\nThis year it was driving a train,<\/span> so when we got in, he made a bee<\/span>-line\ndirectly to the train station. The combination<\/span> of there being fewer kids\nand our getting in earlier (we had checked in and gotten our entry number\nearlier, before having lunch in the mall) meant that he was actually the\nfirst kid at the train station, so he could pick the train job he wanted:\ndriver<\/b>.<\/p>\n\n

That's about the most we could see him while he was on the job... the\nboy working as the conductor stood at the doorway window the whole time, as\nthat gives him the proper vantage to take care of his job of dealing with\nthe train doors when they're at a station<\/span> (and I have<\/span> the impression that\nthe distance between each station during their 15-minute shift was covered\nin mere seconds, to give more station-arrival and station-departure\nfun).<\/p>\n\n

The train was laid out with three separate driver cabs, so three kids\ncould drive at any one time. Earlier, I had snapped<\/span> a picture<\/span> of one of the\ndriver consoles that was more easily visible from the outside, so I could<\/span>\nsee what he would be working with...<\/p>\n\n\n

As sparse as it looks, it's quite accurate (much more so than the 747\ncocpit he was in last time for his flight school<\/a>). Even\nthe old pre-computer style train console was pretty sparse, as seen in this photo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Above the two yellow buttons is a pocket<\/span> watch sitting on a bed<\/span> of green\nfelt. A real train<\/span> driver brings his pocket watch with him and sets it in\nthe bed of green felt when he takes his station... I've seen it in real\nlife and thought it was a great<\/span> personal touch (it's the driver's\nresponsibility to be on time, and there's no blaming the clock when you're\nresponsible for the clock). In this pretend<\/span> train the watch was sealed\nbehind plastic, which is too bad... it would have made a nice<\/span> touch here as\nwell.<\/p>\n\n
