Well, it's not “Three Generations” quite in the same way as this shot<\/a> or this one<\/a>, but you\nget the idea.<\/p>\n\n\n

As you can tell by my lean posting schedule of late, I'm buried<\/span> with\nwork on my Lightroom\nplugins<\/a>, hoping Lr3 doesn't come out before I'm ready. But I had<\/span> the\nopportunity to use an amazing lens today, and took it for a short<\/span> stroll\nnear my place.<\/p>\n\n

The lens — an all-manual Cosina Voigtl\u00e4nder 125mm f\/2.5<\/b>\n— is a full<\/span> 100% macro, something I'd never used before. I got close<\/span>\nwith the 64% macro of the Sigma Bigma + 2× TC combination that I\nreported<\/span> on in Walkabout with the Sigma\nBigma: Versatility Galore<\/a> a month<\/span> ago, but this lens is in a different<\/span>\nclass.<\/p>\n\n

(While the Voigtlander might be in a diffretnt<\/span> class, unfortunately,\nI'm<\/i> still in the same class, so the quality of these first shots are\nsomewhat lacking...)<\/p>\n\n

One of the very first shots I took when I got<\/span> my hands on it, scrambling\naround the house for something to try it out with, was this shot of some\nflowers still hanging on from our wedding anniversary two weeks ago...<\/p>\n\n

What really amazes me about that shot is that the wind was whipping the\nlittle guy around, and you can see some movement blur on him, but the\nspider web is sharp as can be, so the movement at that one instant must\nhave been in a direction<\/span> exactly parallel to the web.<\/p>\n\n

At 125mm, it's the longest telephoto I've ever used without VR\n(anti-vibration technology), and I could<\/span> most certainly tell the\ndifference. If I ever<\/span> find free time again, I definitely<\/span> need to break out\nthe tripod.<\/p>\n\n

There were only a few dandelions in the area I was<\/span> walking, but I seem<\/span>\nto have been attracted to them....<\/p>\n\n

Those “big” red plants in the background are almost invisible to the eye\nunless you're looking... they're very small. Compare to this shot with the\nSigma<\/a> at 32% macro.<\/p>\n\n

I don't really care for the shot... the thin depth of field is more\nannoying than artistic in this case.<\/p>\n\n

Compare with the identically-titled photo on my post about the Sigma\nBigma<\/a>. Today was lacking the bright sun that gave the other shot such\ngreat texture, but unfortunately I wasn't<\/span> at liberty to change the weather\nto suit my personal needs, so I went<\/span> with what I had.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

A 125mm manual-focus lens is not really what one would use for wildlife\nphotography, but they were feeding in front of me, and I had<\/span> the camera, so\nwhy not.<\/p>\n\n

All the photos on this post are straight-out-of-Lightroom at the default settings, except for\nthe crop in the last shot, a touch<\/span> of extra exposure in two shots that I'd underexposed, and\na white<\/span>-balance fix on the Creamy Jumble (because it was taken in incandescent lighting, which Nikon's\ncameras tend not to auto-whitebalance very well).<\/p>\n\n
