I'm always fascinated at how one can lie with the camera, taking\nadvantage of the fact that as far as the photo is concerned, if it's out of frame, it\ndoesn't exist<\/a>. I do it<\/span> all the time, excluding utility wires, ugly\nurban visual blight, etc., when I'm out and about with the camera.<\/p>\n\n

At the “Yabusame”\nmounted archery rite<\/a> at the Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto, I was amazed<\/span>, as I\noften<\/span> am in these “oasis of nature within the city” situations, that even\nthough we were in Kyoto city proper, the nature was engulfing. Kyoto has a\nlot<\/span> of places like this, which is one of the reasons I love<\/span> it so much.<\/p>\n\n\n

It was quite crowded at the mounted archery event, and people were vying\nfor a vantage<\/span> point. I had a<\/span> considered advantage being a bit<\/span> taller than\naverage, but at the same time being tall has given me an exaggerated sense\nof “don't get in people's way” consideration, so it was a balancing<\/span> act.<\/p>\n\n\n

Anyway, I needed<\/span> to set up the scene to make it clear how crowded it was\nbefore I could<\/span> do a real<\/span> writeup on the event next week, to pre-excuse the\nlack of good photo coverage.
