We have finally<\/i> had some short-sleeve weather to go along with\nthe cherry blossoms... no snow<\/a> for a week,<\/span> though\nit was cold enough to snow just three days ago. I had an<\/span> errand near the\nKiyamachi area of eastern Kyoto, an urban hip night-life concrete jungle\nwhere I shot<\/span> much of “Impossible Photography: No Light, No Tripod, No Hope. D700 and a\n50mm<\/span> f<\/span>\/1.2<\/a>” a year<\/span> and a half<\/span> ago. It has a<\/span> small river lined by cherry blossoms, so I brought<\/span> along the camera.<\/p>\n\n

I've a great sequence of shots of the two girls launching small\nblizzards of cherry-blossom petals that I'll post when I find<\/span> some energy. I actually<\/span> have a few<\/span> sequences like that, and it's not only kids...\njust those who are kids at heart, as we'll see later in this post.<\/p>\n\n

Despite yesterday's post about Anthony growing up too\nquickly<\/a>, he's still very much a kid<\/span> in this cherry-blossom-petal\nrespect....<\/p>\n\n

Even without the aid of kids, the river was awash in petals. I braced<\/span> the camera against a tree<\/span> to get a longer<\/span> exposure to try to show the\nmovement of petals in the river...<\/p>\n\n

The errand was to visit a photo exhibit with Zak<\/a>, who had headed to the area\nearly to play his\nshakuhachi<\/a> among the blossoms....<\/p>\n\n

As he was packing up his stuff, a kindly<\/span>-looking couple stopped by and\npeeked into his case to ask what the instrument was, and when they found\nout, they looked quite disappointed that they missed it. Zak had already<\/span>\ntold me how tired and hungry he was, but I still<\/span> had enough energy to\nvolunteer his talents, so said (more or less translated as) “geez, just go\nahead and play something for them!”.<\/p>\n\n

So he did, some old classic, and they loved<\/i> it. The man then<\/span>\nasked him to play it again so that he could sing along...<\/p>\n\n

I was happy to expose Anthony to this slice of culture, but he didn't\nhave all that much interest... taking a daring<\/span> excursion on the wrong side\nof the bridge barrier was more along his interests...<\/p>\n\n
