So in the post a week ago about our visit to the palm reserve<\/a>\non the last day of our\nshort trip<\/a> to the southern-Japan island of Ishigaki last May, I ended<\/span> up\nwith a photo<\/span> of a small<\/span> tree-climbing lizard.<\/p>\n\n

Even stranger was the location, a long<\/span> series of underground limestone\ncaves whose only representation above ground was a set<\/span> of covered stairs\ndescending down from a small<\/span> parking lot. (There's an entertainment complex\nsome distance away where you buy tickets.)<\/p>\n\n

The area you could walk ended under a gaping<\/span> hole in the ground (the\nceiling to us). The cave continued<\/span> for miles, a sign<\/span> said, but it was\nlikely unsafe and was closed off to the public.<\/p>\n\n

A bare bulb was unceremoniously shoved into the recess behind this\nwildly-eroded rock. I'd love to<\/span> know how this erosion pattern could have\ncome about.<\/p>\n\n

The caves were cool, making the early-summer heat all the more hot, so\nwhen we returned to the surface world, Anthony decided to cool off by\ntaking his shirt of.... and running around like crazy.<\/p>\n\n
