{"id":147,"date":"2006-02-13T00:06:36","date_gmt":"2006-02-12T15:06:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-02-13\/147"},"modified":"2006-02-13T00:06:36","modified_gmt":"2006-02-12T15:06:36","slug":"shame-on-volvo-for-egregious-lack-of-safety","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/regex.info\/blog\/2006-02-13\/147","title":{"rendered":"Shame on Volvo for egregious lack of safety"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n   \n\n<p>\nThis is starting to sound like <span class='nobr'>a broken<\/span> record, but this time it's shame on\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.volvocars.co.jp\/\">Volvo<\/a> for not having\n<style type=\"text\/css\">\n.latch { font-size: 85% }\n<\/style>\n\n<span class=\"latch\">LATCH<\/span> car-seat mount points (called &#8220;<span\nclass=\"latch\"><a\nhref=\"http:\/\/www.iso.org\/iso\/en\/prods-services\/popstds\/isofix.html\">ISOFIX<\/a><\/span>&#8221;\noutside America). <span class='nobr'>I posted<\/span> earlier about <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-01-15\/133\">Audi not having <span\nclass=\"latch\">LATCH<\/span> points<\/a> on some of their models offered in\nJapan. Today we were at <span class='nobr'>a Volvo<\/span> dealership, and while browsing one of the\ncatalogs noticed <span class='nobr'>a quote<\/span> from the founder along the lines of &#8220;because\ncars are driven by people, safety must always be our primary\nconcern.&#8221;\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nVery nice, but why does it seem that <b>none<\/b> of their cars offered in\nJapan have this <b>most very basic<\/b> safety feature? (At least, none of\nthe cars at the dealer <span class='nobr'>I checked<\/span> today, including models that run for\n$60,000!) It's just two short lengths of metal welded at the appropriate\nspot on the seat frame -- <i>how hard can it be?<\/i> This is an\ninternational standard, for Pete's sake!\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nEven worse, the seat belts weren't even the locking type (see <a\nhref=\"\/blog\/2006-01-15\/133\">previous post<\/a> for an\nexplanation of this). This means that 99% of all car seats can't be used in\nthe car <b>at all<\/b> without special (sold separately, don't forget to\nbring them) belt locks.\n\n<\/p><p>\n\nPathetic.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> This is starting to sound like a broken record, but this time it's shame on Volvo for not having LATCH car-seat mount points (called \"ISOFIX\" outside America).
