This looks like a misty-white snow-covered mountain, but it's not.<\/p>\n\n

There's no mist; the fuzzy white areas that seem to be blurry turn out\nto show clear detail of every snow-covered branch and twig when you look at\nthe full-sized version<\/a>.\n(However, most web browsers will downscale the huge image at first, so\nyou'll likely have to click once on the link to bring up the larger\nversion, then again on that larger version to see it in its full-resolution\nglory).<\/p>\n\n

Also, I like how<\/span> the snippet of less-snowy foreground mountain in the\nbottom-right corner adds an odd sense of dimension in an otherwise\ndimensionless scene.<\/p>\n\n

(I found the level of detail to be remarkable compared to what I\nexpected<\/span> at first glance, but I'm not sure I'd really<\/i> use the word\n“exquisite” here..... but it does lend a nice<\/span> feeling to the post title\n:-))<\/p>\n\n

This shot is from among those I took<\/span> during the final day of our short\nNew Year's trip to snowy\nToyama Prefecture<\/a>, several hours north-east of Kyoto. I'm still<\/span> working\nmy way through the second day's photos (highlighted so far by some winter-wonderland driving<\/a>\nand a visit<\/span> to the historical Gokayama Village of thatched\nhouses<\/a>) and have been too busy to even give the photos from the other\ndays a once<\/span>-over, but like the photo in the “Snowy\nMountains<\/a>” post, I happen<\/span> to run across this photo while flipping\naround my image catalog during the incessant testing I do<\/span> for my plugins for Adobe\nLightroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Personally, I do not<\/span> care for bright desktop-background images, but\nthis one has so caught my fancy that I may<\/span> just give it a try.<\/span> In any case<\/span>,\nlinks to desktop-background sizes are provided under the photo in case\nyou'd like it for yourself.<\/p>\n\n
