We're preparing for a short trip into snow country, packing warm coats\nand gloves and such for a few<\/span> days of what will mostly be Anthony snow\nplay. I'm quite<\/span> looking forward to it, but am also reminded that our New\nYear's trip a year<\/span> ago was to the warmer climate of the Okinawan mainland,\nstaying at the Atta Terrace Hotel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

The trip was just two nights, yet among the half dozen posts I wrote<\/span>\nsoon after, I wasn't<\/span> able to get around to posting anything from the third\nday, and barely touched on what we did the second. So I'll catch up just a\nbit<\/span> with our first breakfast on Okinawa...<\/p>\n\n

Facing the pool from the side was a lounge<\/span> \/ library \/ bar kind of\nplace, that I thought<\/span> was photogenic...<\/p>\n\n

The attention to detail was evident at the hotel with the little\ntable-top floral pieces. A year ago<\/span> I used<\/span> examples from this room to fill\na post<\/span> titled “Japanese Attention to\nPresentation<\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n

We then started our only full day on Okinawa with a drive<\/span> on which we\nfound some New Year's cherry\nblossoms<\/a>, explored tiny and rural Kouri\nIsland<\/a> and its photogenic late-afternoon\nsun<\/a>, then toward dusk I took<\/span> advantage of the low light prowess of my\nNikon D700<\/a> to capture a shot<\/span> of a lonely little island<\/a> the\nsize of a haystack<\/span> in light so dark and gloomy that I shouldn't<\/span> have even\nbothered trying<\/a>. But I did<\/span> try, and emboldened with the results,\nreturned to the photogenic hotel to really try pushing the limits of\nlow-light photography<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

All in all, it was a great day (remember, a good<\/span> breakfast starts a good<\/span>\nday!), but I've still not gotten around to posting about the best part.
