First movie I've seen in <span class='nobr'>a Japanese<\/span> theater in 10+ years.<\/p>\n\n<p>Was worth the wait.<\/p>\n\n<p>Amazing on all levels. Some complain that the basic story concept is not\noriginal, and that's true, but that doesn't mean that <span class='nobr'>a well<\/span>-told story is\nnot well told. The original <i>Star Wars<\/i> somehow managed to get past\nthe &#8220;just another <i>good vs. evil<\/i> story&#8221; gauntlet, and\n<i>Avatar<\/i> gets by the &#8220;Just another <i>Dances With\nWolves<\/i>&#8221; gauntlet for me.<\/p>\n\n<p>The last movie that I saw more than once in <span class='nobr'>a theater<\/span> was <i>Top Gun<\/i>\nin 1986. I'll definitely be looking to see <i>Avatar<\/i> on the big screen\nagain.<\/p>\n\n<p>I just wish Japanese subtitling was better. The non-English parts of <span class='nobr'>a\nHollywood<\/span> movie (that are subtitled in English when shown in America) are\nshown in Japan only in Japanese, way over at the far side of the screen,\nusing <span class='nobr'>a very<\/span> weird and (for me) difficult-to-read font. Like subtitles\nanywhere, they fly by at faster than the speed of sound. (The speed that\nthey appear is inversely proportional to your skill in reading the\nlanguage.) So, <span class='nobr'>I think<\/span> missed some of the more subtle points of the plot\nalong the way.<\/p>\n\n<p>Still, it was totally amazing.<\/p>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Saw Avatar today.
