In my previous post, “Changing Lenses<\/a>”, I showed<\/span> a picture<\/span> of a friend<\/span> in front of a serious<\/span> splash of fall colors. The leaves<\/span> were so low in the view because we were at the top of a set<\/span> of\nstairs. From the bottom of the stairs, looking up, the view was the\nimpressive canopy seen above.<\/p>\n\n

The view was pretty impressive from most everywhere...<\/p>\n\n

Roofs can be thatched in various ways; these are thatched with large, rough reeds...<\/p>\n\n

They're usually a bit more tidy, such as\nthis<\/a>, but often\nthe rough nature can be used to preserve a natural<\/span> feel, such as with or these thatched walls<\/a>. (A\nmuch<\/span> cleaner appearance, though certainly much more expensive, is to thatch\nwith thin strips of ceder, such as this<\/a>, this<\/a>, and this<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n

It seemed that only the top layer had become roughed up by nature....\nthe bulk of the roof seemed to be still neatly trimmed....<\/p>\n\n

The roof looks to be glowing a bit, because as the sun had just come\nout, the dew had heated up and started to steam. I first<\/span> noticed it on the\nroof of a small<\/span> wall fronting the further thatched building...<\/p>\n\n

It was sort of dramatic in how it wasn't steaming at all when we first\nwalked up, then suddenly started. As mist tends<\/span> to be, it was difficult to\ncatch with the camera....<\/p>\n\n

Stepping back even further added a foreground<\/span> splash of momiji<\/i> (maple)...<\/p>\n\n

In a competition between 85mm and 14mm, it seems that the winner is us.<\/p>\n\n

Stepping back a bit further shows the bridge I was<\/span> standing on (and the\nsame guy who stood right there for five minutes, seemingly intent on doing\nnothing but spoiling the photos I and<\/span> others were obviously trying to\ntake)....<\/p>\n\n

The site continued back and up the mountain a bit,<\/span> so I could<\/span> step back\nand up further for a nice<\/span> view. Playing around with one shot in Lightroom,\nalong the lines of the\nBarbary style<\/a>, I ended<\/span> up with something that I think's<\/span> sort of\npretty...<\/p>\n\n
