When Anthony wakes up, he gathers the friends he slept with, comes into\nthe living room and deposits them somewhere random before starting his play\nfor the day, or getting ready for school, etc. The photo<\/span> above is from a\nweek<\/span> or so ago, though it's much the same every day save for the set of\n“and friends” that fluctuates often. (The pink pig, for example, is a recent<\/span> addition<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n

Realizing that he'll all-too-soon grow out of this childish cuteness, I took the<\/span> snapshot last week to remember it by.<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nGeorge Debut<\/span>\nOct 8, 2002, two weeks before Anthony's debut\n<\/div>\n\n

We received George at a baby shower thrown by my colleagues at Yahoo!. If I recall<\/span>, it was David Papandrew and Jim O'Connor who so very kindly\n“invited” George. Fumie's mom was there, as were lots of friends and\ncoworkers.... on the right in the photo above is Mike Bennett, who hired me\ninto Yahoo and was still my manager at the time. At left is<\/span> friend Katie\nStanton and her three kids (she had left Yahoo! the previous month to spend\nmore time with her kids, but eventually got antsy and moved on to Google\nand beyond<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n

Katie, having just had twins, gave us the lowdown on the tools of the\ntrade for parenthood (Diaper Genie: yes!) and a lesson<\/span> in how to change\ndiapers. The first<\/span> diapers that Fumie and I ever<\/span> changed were the twins;\nshe Caleigh, and me Declan. I'm sure this<\/span> remains a cherished<\/span> memory for\nthem as it does for us. In particular, I was very<\/span> encouraged by the fact\nthat Declan did not pee on me (a track<\/span> record Anthony did not quite manage\nto maintain).<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nFour Months Old<\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n

It was a while before Anthony could appreciate George, or even grasp\nhim, but once he could grab a hold<\/span> of George, his basis of appreciation was\nlikely George's great gum-ability. At that stage<\/span>, Anthony liked anything he\ncould bite...<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nChow Time<\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n

Heck, he'd chew on a pair of socks if he could....<\/p>\n\n

Really.<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nI Wasn't<\/span> Kidding<\/span>\n<\/div>\n\n

But it wasn't long before George was Anthony's go-to friend, especially\nfor sleeping.<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\n5½ Months<\/span>\nfirst picture I can find of Anthony sleeping with George\n<\/div>\n\n

We don't have a lot of pictures of Anthony sleeping when he was young,\ndue to the simple fact that the camera would tend to wake him up, and a\nsleeping<\/span> baby is not something we wanted to deny ourselves.<\/p>\n\n

In fact, I'm not even<\/span> sure that he's sleeping in the picture above. The camera<\/span> I had<\/span> at the time (Canon Powershot SB20) had the habit of\npre-flashing the flash a quarter<\/span> second before taking the shot, thereby\nalmost guaranteeing that Anthony's eyes would be closed or half closed with\na blink.<\/span> It took a<\/span> long time before I realized<\/span> why he looked dopey in a lot<\/span>\nof pictures. Grrr.<\/p>\n\n

Soon they became inseparable friends. If they did<\/span> somehow become separated, unfunness ensued.<\/p>\n\n

<\/a>\nTwo Years Later<\/span>\nApril 2005, 2½ Years Old\n<\/div>\n\n

I'm not sure when I noticed that he brought all his sleeping friends out\nwhen he woke up, but here's a shot<\/span> of him at 3 years old with a big<\/span>\nole handful of friends, first posted in “Sleepyhead<\/a>”.<\/p>\n\n
