I visited today the Eikando Temple gardens, nestled in the base of the\nmountains at the far east of Kyoto, about a 15<\/span>-minute walk from our place. I'd been there<\/span> before and thought it was really pretty, but I must<\/span> have\nbeen stupid or blind (or on parenting duty with an impatient kid to look\nafter) because today it was FREAKING MIND-BLOWING\nAMAZING<\/i><\/b>.<\/p>\n\n

Just *WOW*.<\/p>\n\n

The temple is famous for its fall colors, as I found<\/span> out the first time\nI drove<\/span> by during the proper season, posted in “Colorful Leaves and\nColorful Kimono<\/a>”, of kimono-clad ladies congregating at the\nentrance to the temple's preschool. Visiting the preschool was my main goal\ntoday, as we were again invited to their “Fall-Color Festival” by one of\nAnthony's friends (the same festival is the subject of “Anthony and Friends\nAmong the Colors<\/a>” from two years ago).<\/p>\n\n

The visit two years ago resulted in “Bonanza of\nFall-Foliage Desktop Backgrounds<\/a>”, but we were with Anthony and\nsome of his friends, so I couldn't<\/span> really spend much time in the temple\ngardens during that visit. This year, we spent some time at the festival in\nthe morning and then left for mass, after which I left<\/span> Fumie and Anthony at\nhome and returned to explore the gardens at my leisure.<\/p>\n\n

It was heavily overcast in the afternoon, eventually starting to rain\nwhile we were there (in the afternoon, I met a<\/span> camera-toting friend\nvisiting from The States). But the cloud<\/span> cover made the photography all the\nbetter, I think.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

The temple is the most expensive to visit that I've ever seen (1,000 yen\n– about $12 – to enter), and on a day<\/span> like today was worth\nevery single yen.<\/p>\n\n

These 15<\/span> photos are just about the first 15 photos I took.<\/span> Not quite,\nbut almost, save for a bout<\/span> of testing the exposure.... I still<\/span> feel I'm\nfighting the D700's desire to overexpose, and most of these were taken with\n-1EV exposure compensation.<\/p>\n\n

I haven't even gone through most of the 157 photos from the day, but\neven just these, full size on a high<\/span>-quality (high-gamut) monitor... wow,\nmy head wants to explode.<\/p>\n\n

I wanted to include Desktop-Background\nversions<\/a> of most of these, but gave up after spending a couple<\/span> of hours\ntrying to get the requisite Photoshop script working on my new Mac<\/a>. Must\neventually figure it out and revisit these.<\/p>\n\n
