The large rusty white sign above says “this is a national<\/span>\ntreasure; don't play inside<\/i>” and the small one on the stone\nlantern says “don't touch<\/i>” Yoshida shrine complex is\nfull of signs with all manner of these kind of admonishments.... somewhat\nof a bummer.<\/span><\/p>\n\n

So, on my short outing on Sunday morning to explore Mt. Yoshida<\/a>, where I\nended<\/span> up finding the\nYoshida Shrine<\/a> nestled in the mountain, I had started<\/span> at an ancillary\nshrine accessible by a small<\/span> twisty road toward the south edge of the\nmountain, desirable as a starting<\/span> spot due to its compelling attributes of\n1)<\/b> I knew<\/span> where it was, and 2)<\/b> accessible by scooter, and 3)<\/b> a place<\/span> I\ncould<\/span> park the scooter.<\/p>\n\n

In the center-left background of the photo above you can see a fence.<\/span> My first<\/span> photo of the day was of one of the fence posts:<\/p>\n\n

Leaving the ancillary shrine, I noticed<\/span> a large<\/span> area near the side of the road strewn with\nlarge pink flower petals among the leaves...<\/p>\n\n

I wondered whether they might be left over from some kind of wedding\nevent, but they covered a fairly<\/span> wide area. The trees<\/span> above all seemed to\nbe normal deciduous trees now dropping leaves rather than flowering, so I\nhave<\/span> no idea where these petals came from. Very odd.<\/p>\n\n

I continued on the road up the hill a bit<\/span> to an area I'd been before...<\/p>\n\n

This is the reverse angle of this picture<\/a> from last spring.<\/p>\n\n

Like Kyoto's dazzling\nFushimi Inari Shrine<\/a>, and many Inari shrines, there is a walkway<\/span> lined\nwith stone or wooden torii<\/i> gates representing large donations to the\nshrine.<\/p>\n\n

This particular spot among the gates drew my attention, and I couldn't<\/span>\ndecide whether I wanted<\/span> to accentuate the repetitive nature of the walkway,\nor the crisp rock-solid strength of the one stone gate, so I tried<\/span> both. Above is one,\nand below is another....<\/p>\n\n

After passing through the shrine, I entered<\/span> the wooded “park”, which is\nreally just some paths cut through dense forest. While in there, unlike this fake wilderness\nshot<\/a> I posted<\/span> the other day, in all directions you seen nothing but\nforest and path...<\/p>\n\n

It's yet another reason Kyoto is so wonderful... like the higashiyama<\/i>\nmountains<\/a>, they provide a nature<\/span> escape within casual walking distance\nof city.<\/p>\n\n
