Since this blog is essentially my family diary, I'll take license to\ncontinue some posts from Anthony's birthday party<\/a> a couple<\/span> of weeks ago. After having\ncake<\/a>, it was time for presents...<\/p>\n\n

Anthony doesn't get to watch much TV, but when he does, it's often\nsuper-hero shows. When I was<\/span> a kid<\/span> there was batman and superman, and\nthings were simple. In Japan<\/span> these days there are all kinds of super heroes,\nall looking essentially identical to me, but the details are important\nstuff in the life of a first<\/span>-grade boy.<\/p>\n\n

His toy this time was something called a Double\nDriver<\/a>, a belt<\/span> with modules that allows the wearer to transform into\nall kinds of super-power manifestations.<\/p>\n\n

The lighter-sized modules stick into the two edges of the “W”-shaped\nbelt, then the whole thing adjusts to “locking position”, accompanied by\ncool lights and cool sounds simulating a complex<\/span> full-body suit unfolding\nout of seemingly nowhere. I guess<\/span><\/p>\n\n

Fumie recognized the general idea as being the same as a toy<\/span> Anthony had\nenlisted my help in making some months ago, and pulled it out...<\/p>\n\n

We generally let him pick one toy for his birthday present.\nTurning four he chose a\nlarge trash truck<\/a>,\nat five a train set<\/a>,\nand last year a helicopter<\/span><\/a>.\nThis year he gave a long<\/span> list of things he wanted, and I worked<\/span> with him to narrow them down. In the end<\/span>, he got the main item he'd decided on, but apparently didn't remember what it was...<\/p>\n\n
