What a wasted day. I spent<\/span> hours and hours trying to get some Windows\nprograms running on my new Mac<\/a>, using both VMWare Fusion and Parallels, and\nfailed miserably. I'm not in<\/span> a good<\/span> mood.<\/p>\n\n

Anthony's classes were canceled for the week because half the kids in\nhis class came down with the flu, so he's home all day and was running a\nslight<\/span> fever himself, so I wanted<\/span> to let him relax all day. He wanted<\/span> to do\nthe flying game we have (RealFlight R\/C Flight Simulator<\/a>) and I tried<\/span> it on Fusion\nand it almost<\/i> worked, but didn't.<\/p>\n\n

I then tried his JumpStart learning game<\/a> and got the background music and\na blank<\/span> screen.<\/p>\n\n

Fusion's website is pathetic<\/b>, with no overall search.... you\napparently have to know that there are various places where information\nmight be found (help, forums, etc.) and search each individually. I wanted<\/span> to post to the forum to ask about my issues, but require a business<\/span>\naddress and phone number before they'll let you. Sigh.<\/p>\n\n

So I tried Parallels, and got the first few screens of the JumpStart\nthing to work, then<\/i> got the blank screen.<\/p>\n\n

What a frustrating day.<\/p>\n\n

I've had a mixed bag with my Apple Time Machine as well. I installed<\/span> it\nlast week as my main home-network router, and the configuration was an\nabsolute breeze... just wonderful<\/b>, except the small hitch that\nFumie's Mac Mini could not get an IP if I connected<\/span> it directly to the Time\nMachine. Yet, oddly, if I connected<\/span> it to a switch<\/span> that I connected<\/span>\ndirectly to the Time Machine, it worked just fine. Very, very odd. The only thing<\/span> I can<\/span> think of is that there's something about the physical\nconnectors that's stopping a full<\/span> connection when made directly, but that's\nnot really very credible.<\/p>\n\n

So, I decided<\/span> to give Apple a call<\/span> about it today, and talked with a\nlady<\/span> in Tokyo with excellent English. We tried<\/span> the standard things (full\nreset, etc.) and it didn't work, so without any fuss and bother she decided\nto send a new<\/span> one out. Once it arrives (and hopefully works) and I get<\/span> my\nmachines fully backed up on the new one, I'll then send the old one back. The ease with<\/span> which the support call proceeded is about the only bright\npoint in the day.<\/p>\n\n
