\n\nWhat a difference a day makes – I feel<\/span> so much better<\/b> today than yesterday<\/a>. It's great<\/span> to\nbe alive.\n\n<\/p>

\n\nSo, I can finally<\/span> write about my first outing with my new Nikon D200<\/a>, which was\nbefore I got<\/span> my cold. The Kyoto<\/span> City Fire Department had their annual New\nYear Exhibition, pretty much just outside our front door. According to the\npress\nrelease<\/a>, there were some 3,000 people, 57 vehicles, and 5 helicopters\ninvolved – numbers that add up to fun and interest for Anthony.\n\n<\/p>\n \n

\n\nI'd only received my camera the previous evening, and for the most part had\nno idea really how to use it. I put in<\/span> on aperture-priority and left my\nlens wide open, and for the most part let the camera figure out the rest. I wanted<\/span> the lens wide open because a tangibly<\/span> short depth of field was\nsomething I could<\/span> play with right off the bat. (I do<\/span> remember something\nfrom my high-school photography-nerd days.)\n\n<\/p>

\n\nIt started out sunny, and the pictures came out fine, but as it became\novercast and dreary, the pictures showed more and more that I wasn't<\/span> doing\nsomething right. (I just<\/span> got the English manual today, so hopefully I can<\/span>\ndig in and start learning soon.)\n\n<\/p>

\n\nI had the camera produce the smallest JPG it can (1,296 x 1,936 pixels –\nabout 2.5 megapixels), which is what all these pictures are derived from. I also had<\/span> it produce, in parallel, a full<\/span>-detail raw version of each image,\nwhich I can<\/span> refer to if I eventually<\/span> need the full 10-megapixel 3,872 ×\n2,592 glory for any particular picture.\n\n<\/p>
