I'm not sure which is worse.... being sick for a week,<\/span> or, after getting\nbetter, having to face the mountain of email and work that accumulated\nduring that time. (And how is it that a month's<\/span> worth of stuff can\naccumulate in just eight days???)<\/p>\n\n

As with the floating fluffy seed in “Santa-Clause Wishes, and\nPhotography Practice<\/a>”, I used the<\/span> floating bubbles to practice\nsome on-the-move manual focusing....<\/p>\n\n

I'm not exactly sure whether a floating soap bubble has much definition\nto appear sharp in the first place, but this one looks pretty good to me.\nHere's a full<\/span>-resolution crop of the bubble, on the surface of which you\ncan see the clouds, lake, and the clouds reflected in the lake...<\/p>\n\n

At the far left, you can even see the tree on the island.<\/p>\n\n

Tomorrow morning should have a bit<\/span> of\nexcitement, as Typhoon #18 is forecast to cut close by, and it's apparently\na bruiser.<\/span> We're totally safe here, so I'm just looking forward to the\ndynamic weather. (Having grown up in Ohio, I really<\/span> enjoy a good<\/span>\nthunderstorm<\/a>, but they're rare in Kyoto, so I'll have to make do with\na typhoon.<\/span>)<\/p>\n\n

There's been a light rain on and off all day, with not the slightest\nhint of a breeze<\/span> until recently. As I started<\/span> to write this post, the wind\nreally whipped up into a major<\/span> frenzy, doing the kindness of pointing out\nthe location of every single piece of paper in my office that is not nailed\ndown. (I've got the door to the balcony open so I can<\/span> enjoy the sound of\nthe rain.)<\/p>\n\n

But now as I finish up, the mild rain continues, but the wind is\ncompletely gone.<\/p>\n\n

The typhoon is forecast<\/a> to cut through this area tomorrow\nmorning around 7am. By noon it<\/span>'ll probably be clear and sunny, with the\nexceptionally clean air that often follows a typhoon,<\/span> so I'm planning to\nhead up to the Shougunzuka Overlook<\/a> and am hoping for some great shots of Kyoto's\nvalley<\/a>.
